I may have gone a little crazy with Everlys birthday decor but it was SO much fun to plan. I figured I might as well do a cute little party before she wants me to give her a Frozen themed party. Pinterest was my go-to for decor inspo and I was able to DIY it all! I usually have these great DIY ideas and then when I actually do them they don’t turn out even close to what I imagined. haha I can’t be the only one who’s had many Pinterest fails! (ps. if you don’t follow me on pinterest you totally should!) I have to give my friend Megan a shoutout for creating this amazing cake for Everly! Theres no way I could have made one this beautiful and it tasted ah-mazing too!
Anyways, I was really excited with how good everything turned out! Here are the DIY deets so you can make one yourself!
*Quick Tip- If you are wanting a solid white back drop like I was, go to the Dollar Tree and buy the white plastic rectangle table clothes. Super cheap and works like a charm!*
Balloons String Tape Flowers/Greenery
First blow up all your balloons. I got the cheap $1 ones from good old Walmart and just blew up some of them all the way full and some half way full to get some different sizes. Next tie a piece of string, just a couple inches long, around the end of each balloon. Then I set up two chairs back to back and taped a huge piece of string to both of them! (there was about 10 feet in between the chairs) So that the string is lifted off of the ground and its easier to tie the balloons on the string. Next just tie the balloons on the string in the order that you want. I didn’t have any specific method but just kind of went off of what I thought looked good! Next I got a staple gun and stapled it to the wall in the shape that I wanted and just wrapped my fake flowers/greenery around the main piece of string throughout the garland! Voila, all done!
Large Wood Board Wood Pegs Decor Paint Drill Hammer
Determine how big of a donut wall you want! They have many different sizes of flat wood boards at home depot. Then paint your board! Tip: use chalk paint! Its thick and will cover everything in 1-2 coats. Next I cut out paper donuts and taped them to the board in the arrangement that I wanted them. This served as a guide for where to drill the holes for pegs! Before drilling I went ahead a put my decor on so that I knew exactly what spacing I had to work with and how it would look at the end! The words are cut out in vinyl and I stapled on the greenery! After taping on my paper donuts I got a measuring tape to made sure everything was evenly spaced/straight and made little dots where the holes needed to be drilled. I held the board up while my husband drilled the holes with a power drill. Make sure to use the same size drill piece as your pegs so that it won’t be too big or too small. Once you’ve drilled all the holes, get your pegs and hammer them in the holes. Then get your yummy donuts and hang them up for everyone to drool over! I really wish I would have had one of these at my wedding! Wouldn’t that be perfect?!
*Please, please be careful when drilling the holes! I don’t want anyone getting hurt when trying this!*
Clothes Pins Paint String Pictures
This DIY is super simple! Just print out the pictures you want to hang. Paint the clothes pins if you want them colored. Then just tie a knot at each end of the string so that it doesn’t slide through the tape/staple and secure to the wall. (I stapled because the walls were carpeted so it was easier) The pin your pictures on the string and you’re good to go! Since the clothes pins and pictures were pretty heavy I didn’t give any slack on the string when I secured it to the wall and then it just naturally drooped. I also got these cute gold confetti balloons from Walmart for super cheap, i want to say it was $3 for 6 in the party section of Walmart. It was way cheaper than ones I found on amazon. I got them filled with helium and just secured them to the wall in the place I wanted them to rest!
Now onto the cake smash pics! Miss Everly, who loves everything sugary, was not about to give us a good cake smash show! I think she just got a little shy with everyone watching her. Luckily we got some pictures of her eating the cake. It looks like she was totally into it in the pictures so we will just pretend that it was like that in real life haha! We can’t believe how fast this past year flew by and our little peanut is already one! She’s been the best thing to happen to our family! Happy First Birthday Everly Rey!
